GIVEAWAY FOR THE BEST IDEA…Read on for details…

August 29, 2009

How would you cut a steel belted radial tire in half?  It is the tire only (no rims) and I want to cut it so that I end up with 2 circles…a front half and back half.

The person that posts the BEST idea by Midnight on Tuesday, Sept 1, will receive a FREE Mini-Lugz Ugz plush toy. You will have your choice of yellow, red, or cammo.  Mini-Lugz is about 7×7 inches. See it HERE!

The project which the tire will be used in is super secret right now but, if it works, will be revealed on Friday, Sept 4.  Even if it doesn’t work, the person with the BEST idea for cutting the tire in half will still get the prize!

If you found this via Etsy’s Forums, you can comment either here or there…

Yay!!!

I received my first “heart” on Etsy!!! So excited!

Calendar check…

August 26, 2009

I just checked the calendar and M and J Designs is officially 3 projects ahead of the Project-a-Day goal.  WooHoo!!!!  I love being ahead!  But, I have to admit, my organizational skills are lagging this week.  This morning my desk was a wreck, my craft/art closet was a disaster, and my calendar was all in my head.

I wish my camera was working (and no, I did not win the eBay auction I was following…).  I would have loved to take before/after pictures.  I sat down this evening and finished 2 full size Lugz creatures, cleaned off the desk, organized the closet, and put my calendar on paper!

Feels great to look in the closet and see the finished projects lined up and ready to go, see my fabrics and supplies sorted and organized, and to see the desk clear and ready for work.  And, of course, to see each item plotted out on my calendar…I’m keeping track of what I do each day and how far ahead or behind I am.

In other news, I joined an Etsy “Street Team” which is a group of other Etsyans that come together to help promote one another’s work.  Our group is the Sacto-Metro Etsy Street Team.

Here is a list of handy links for my shop and the Street Team:

The street team is talking about having a presence at the Sacramento 2nd Saturday Art Walk and we are discussing doing a backyard show or home show.  If anyone knows of any good venues for us at 2nd Saturday, or if you would like to host a yard or house show, please contact me or a member of the Street Team through this blog or the links above.

Penguin Onesie close upLike Mr. Penguin?  He is one my favorite items in my Etsy shop!  Mr. Penguin loves to make new friends. He also loves to move around but he’s stuck on this white long-sleeved, Carter’s onesie (size 12). Help him get mobile…he loves to waddle around on a toddler’s belly as they crawl, scoot, and walk.

Hand stenciled using Tulip brand fabric paints (permanent, non-toxic, machine washable). Pre-washed, heat-set and re-washed.

For best results: Machine wash in cold with similar items. Tumble dry on low. No bleach. (Comes with cleaning instructions tag, perfect if you give Mr. Penguin as a gift!)

* Carter’s brand onesie
* Long-sleeved
* Size 12 months
* Tulip brand fabric paint

I’m cheating…sort of…

August 24, 2009

I wasn’t planning to launch our Etsy store (http://maleaab.etsy.com) until tomorrow morning but I couldn’t resist and had to list a few items tonight – Sunday, August 23rd!

So far I’m still head by several projects….wish me luck as I craft my way to loan-free graduate studies!

Had a great conversation today with a coworker about running a home-based business. He gave me many things to ponder as well as a big ol’ shot of confidence!

Hang Tags and New Products!

August 20, 2009

As of today, Wednesday, August 19, I am SEVEN…count ’em…SEVEN projects ahead!  But…still without a new digital camera.

At this point I have:

  • 4 stationary sets
  • 9 onesies
  • 1 full sized Ugz plush toy
  • 3 mini Ugz plush toys

I’ve also created hang tags to go on all of the products for the Etsy store.  They are so stinking CUTE!

The launch date is still set for Monday, August 24th…

A little sneak peek…the hang tags:

After much thought….

August 17, 2009

I have decided to take our current listings off of the Etsy shop and wait to relist them until I have a) more products, and b) a better camera to take pictures.

So, the current goal is to continue working on projects, producing an average of one per day…but hopefully more…and we will relaunch on August 24th with at least 10 items.

I also created a new banner and am working on “hang tags” for our products.  The tags are so cute I can hardly stand it!  And, they match the new banner!  I also plan to customize some packaging for our products which will coordinate with the banner and tags.  YAY!

I also changed the banner/header here on the blog…if you’ve never visited before, I suppose you’d never have known, right?  But, I wanted it to tie in with the new Etsy banner:

Thanks for visiting and keep checking back for new updates!

A letter from the ugz co-designer

August 16, 2009

Hello everyone! I Just wanted to let you know that the progress with the new Ugz plushie monsters is running smoothly.

See the post two posts below for a picture of the Ugz toy: Lugz.

Thank-you for visiting this blog.

I almost forgot! I took the Wardrobe Refashion Pledge!

August 16, 2009

I pledged to a two month commitment at Wardrobe Refashion!  If you don’t know what Wardrobe Refashion is, it is a multi-authored blog of people who commit for varying lengths of time to not buy any new clothing for themselves (and in some cases for family members as well) but instead, they make their own or refashion what they already have or what they have thrifted.

Since I’m trying to save money for New York and grad school now seemed like the perfect time to take the pledge!  In fact, here is the pledge itself:

I, Malea, pledge that I shall abstain from the purchase of “new” manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 2 / 4 / 6 months. I pledge that i shall refashion, renovate, recycle preloved items for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract. I pledge that I will share the love and post a photo of my refashioned, renovoted, recycled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftiness brings! Signed Malea.

I am pledging for a two month commitment that will include myself and JP.  I recently counted his short sleeved t-shirts…he has so many that he could wear a different one every day for a month and have no repeats!  He has plenty of pants, shorts, long sleeve shirts, etc also!

As for my own wardrobe?  I’ve got plenty of clothes but a few things need a little help…a few repairs, a few refashions, good to go!
